Kellogg CC Explodes Early, Rolls Past Lake Michigan College 12-1
Lake Michigan College struck first but couldn’t keep pace with a fast-starting Kellogg Community College offense, falling 12–1 on March 28.
The Red Hawks opened the scoring at the top of the first inning when Collin Hatton delivered an RBI double, bringing home Greg Guernsey for an early 1–0 lead. However, Kellogg responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half and surged ahead with a five-run second inning to take control of the game.
Guernsey and Hatton accounted for Lake Michigan's only two hits of the contest, with both recording doubles. The Red Hawks were unable to generate additional offense against Kellogg's pitching, which limited LMC to just one run and struck out six batters.
On the mound, Brayden Hilaski was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) over 1.2 innings. Jimmy Szymanski provided a solid relief outing, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings, while Andrew Lehto added an inning of work.
Defensively, Lake Michigan battled but was hurt by three errors that contributed to Kellogg's big innings.
Despite the setback, the Red Hawks showed early promise by jumping ahead in the first and will look to build on that momentum heading into their next matchup.
