The men traveled to Mid Michigan Community College for the first game of the series. It was a blustery day and it did not look good for the men as Mid Michigan began the first inning by scoring a run. Neither team could produce any runs in the second and third innings. The Lakers came back in the third and scored three more runs taking a 4-0 lead. Lake Michigan did not roll over as they were able to score five runs in the top of the fifth taking the lead by one run. It was a scoreless sixth inning and the Red Hawks pushed across four more runs in the top of the seventh to take the 9-4 win.
Nick Henman began the game allowing six hits, four runs, and three strike outs. Tyler Pursley then came in for relief to hold the Lakers and allowed one hit with three strike outs. Dalton Riddle and Kaleb Burke were the top hitters with doubles and RBI's. Cole Searles hit two singles with two RBI's while Chad Adkerson hit a single with two RBI's. Aaron Federman also hit a single with an RBI.
In the second game, the men were on fire as their defense held strong and did not allow a run by the Lakers. Lake Michigan scored two in the first, one in the third, four in the fourth, and four in the fifth to end the game 11-0.
Dashaun Hureskin pitched all five innings only allowing two hits and striking out four batters. Dalton Riddle hit a home run and a single with four RBI's. Danny Mahoney hit three singles with two RBI's while Cole Searles had two RBI's. Kaleb Burke also hit a single with an RBI.
Mid Michigan was able to score first in the third game of the series in the top of the first inning. Lake Michigan rallied back and scored four runs in the bottom of the inning taking the lead. It was a scoreless game for the next few innings. The Red Hawks were able to push one more across in the bottom of the fifth. Mid Michigan continued to battle against the men and scored one in the top of the seventh but it was not enough and Lake Michigan took the 5-2 win.
Marcus Bradford pitched all seven innings for the win allowing seven hits but struck out two. Dalton Riddle hit another home run with two RBI's. Owen Benson hit two singles with two RBI's while Danny Mahoney hit a double.
In the last game of the series, Lake Michigan continued their hitting streak as they scored four in the bottom of the first inning. It was a scoreless second inning and both teams pushed one across the plate in the third. The Red Hawks opened it up by scoring 13 runs in the fourth and held the Lakers in the fifth to take the 18-1 win.
Marcus Bradford began the game pitching two innings. Nick Frodl and Tyler Pursley came in for relief to finish the game for the men. Dalton Riddle hit another homer and a single with three RBI's. Nick Foote and Kaleb Burke both had doubles for the Red Hawks. Cole Searles hit two singles with two RBI's while Owen Benson hit two singles with three RBI's.
These wins put the men tied for third place along with Grand Rapids Community College with a 15-9 Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference record. The Red Hawks have won the last nine games straight and are looking to obtain a berth into the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII Division II tournament.
The men will host Muskegon Community College on Friday, May 3, 2019 with a 2:00 pm start weather permitting.
