The men traveled to Grand Rapids Community College for a double header and lost the first game 3-9 and won the second game 3-2 in eight innings.

It was a struggle in the first game for the Red Hawks.  The Raiders were able to score four runs in the second inning and then one more in the third.   Lake Michigan was able to execute in the fourth and scored three runs but Grand Rapids answered right back scoring two runs and then two more in the fifth.  The Red Hawks could muster any more runs and took the 3-9 loss.

Ryan Joyce (FR/Lisle, IL) started in the first game and allowed seven runs but struck out three batters. Aaron Moskovitz (SO/West Bloomfield, MI) came in for the men in the fifth and allowed two more runs, striking out two batters.  Damion Pompey (FR/Cassopolis, MI), Tyler Holmes (SO/Jackson, MI), Derek Gribler (SO/Lawrence, MI), and Zach Grishaber (FR/Niles, MI) all hit singles but it was Travis Keys (FR/London, ON) that hit a three run homer to score the only runs for the men.

The second game began a lot like the first with the Raiders scoring in the second inning and also in the third.  Grand Rapids did not allow Lake Michigan to score until the seventh inning when the men were able to obtain a rally and push across two runs, tying the game. Grand Rapids remained scoreless in the seventh.  Their defense went three up and three down in the top of the eighth but Lake Michigan shut down their offense in the bottom of the inning.  Then the Red Hawks stepped up and scored the last run of the game and won 3-2 in nine innings.

Hunter Nagle (FR/Ottawa Lake, MI) pitched lights out for eight innings only allowing two runs with three strike-outs but it was Derek Gribler that came up with the win shutting the Raiders down in the ninth.  A.J. Green (FR/Cassopolis, MI) hit two singles and a double with an RBI.  Troy Lofgren (SO/London, ON) also hit a double with an RBI while Derek Gribler hit a double and a single with an RBI.  Wyatt Thornton (SO/Niles, MI) produced a double and a single, while Damion Pompey, Chad Paddock (SO/Comstock, MI), and Zach Grishaber all had singles.

The men will host Glen Oaks Community College for a double header on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
