Women's Basketball - Fri, Mar. 10, 2017

The Lady Red Hawks traveled to St. Clair County Community College to participate in the semi-finals of the NJCAA Region XII District G tournament where they faced Muskegon Community College.

The Lady Red Hawks took charge of the first quarter leaving the court with a 15-11 lead.  The Lady Jayhawks were relentless and outscored the women in the second quarter to tie the game and went ahead by two in the third quarter.  It was on the line for Lake Michigan and they needed to step up their game offensively.

The women took several errant shots that continued to miss the basket.  The Lady Jayhawks maintained the lead until Hailey Maas (SO/St. Joseph, MI) was fouled and tied the game at 40 points.  This gave the women momentum and they were able to go up one point with three minutes left. Muskegon continued to put pressure on Lake Michigan but the women were able to maintain the lead by one with a minute remaining.  Kelsee Kinder (SO/Dearborn, MI) was brought to the line and put the women up by two points, giving them a three point lead.   The women battled back and fourth with fouls called on both sides, but it was the Red Hawks who were more consistent at the line.  Until seventeen seconds left, when the Lady Jayhawks closed the gap by three.  Lake Michigan was able to hold off the aggressive play by Muskegon and won a tough 55-52 ball game.

Kelsee Kinder led the women with 17 points followed by Jade Mosier (FR/Buchanan, MI) with 13 points and 10 rebounds.  Haley Madison (SO/St. Joseph, MI) was the lead rebounder with 11 and 7 points.

The women will advance to the NJCAA Region XII District G Championship game on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 7:30 pm against the MCCAA Western Conference Champions Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
