Women's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 15, 2017

The Lady Red Hawks hosted Grand Rapids Community College and with ease defeated the Lady Raiders 74-46.

The women started the tone of the game breaking out in their fast paced play and took the lead in the first quarter.  Lake Michigan continued their game into the second quarter only allowing the Lady Raiders to score four points and walked off the court up 39-20.  The teams came back out in the third quarter and Grand Rapids tried their best to change the outcome of the game outscoring Lake Michigan by four points but due to the lead in the first half they were unable to catch up.  This drew to frustrations for the Lady Raiders, who could not connect in the fourth quarter nor handle the Lady Red Hawks offense, and fell to a 74-46 Lake Michigan win.

It was Haley Madison (SO/St. Joseph, MI) who was strong in the paint and saved the women with 12 rebounds, 10 points, and 2 steals.  High scorer Hailey Maas (SO/St. Joseph, MI) couldn't be stopped with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals, while Kelsee Kinder (SO/Dearborn, MI) had 18 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and 6 assists.  Danielle Shaffer (FR/South Bend, IN) had an excellent game scoring 10 points with 5 rebounds.

This win clinched a National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII tournament berth putting them in second place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference with a 11-2 record and a 19-5 overall record.  The women will travel to Lansing Community College on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
