Derek Gribler, from Lawrence, named the 2015 Herald-Palladium Senior Male Athlete of the Year, will play baseball at Lake Michigan College during the Spring 2016 season.

Throughout his high school career, Gribler earned 16 combined varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball and track. Gribler was named to the Division 4 first-team All-State squad in baseball, three years in a row.

On July 8, 2015, Gribler wrote a Letter to the Editor of the Herald Palladium, stating:

"...I would also like to say that I would have never been nominated for this prestigious award if it was not for the great teachers, coaches and, most of all, my teammates, who I have had over the past four years at Lawrence Public Schools. The success all of my teammates and I achieved in athletic competition, especially the last two years, is because our school preaches teamwork, whether it is in the classroom, weight room or on the playing field. I will forever be grateful for all of the opportunities I have been given at Lawrence High, opportunities that some athletes don't get to experience in a larger school. Again, thank you, Herald-Palladium and your sports staff for this award. I cannot wait to start the next chapter in my life at Lake Michigan College."

Earlier this summer, Gribler was also named Van Buren/Cass Male Co-Student Athlete Of The Year. In an interview with Sports Radio 1400 WSJM's Phil McDonald, Gribler said about attending Lake Michigan College to continue his baseball career, "It's definitely a blessing, I'm definitely excited for it. I can't wait."
